When you’re hungry for a filling meal, but need to find a delivery option that’s on the healthier side, salads can be a great option. But you don’t want just any salad — you want a nutritious option that’s packed with the unique flavors, ingredients, and textures. If you’re in San Mateo, you’re in luck: this town definitely dishes up some of the tastiest salad options on the Peninsula. To help you get your hands on a salad that leaves you full and satisfied without the empty calories, we’ve pulled together the top restaurant options perfect for San Mateo food delivery tonight. They each offer salad options that you’re definitely going to enjoy!
Cafe Zoe
Offering fabulous salads that work as a main entree or to compliment one of Cafe Zoe’s fantastic soups or sandwiches, this is a local restaurant that serves up fresh flavor by the plateful. Their pear and blue salad is one local favorite. Packed with sliced pears, fresh blue cheese, candied walnuts, and cranberries, this unique treat is topped with a homemade pear vinaigrette that you’re going to love. And if that option doesn’t strike your fancy, try their olives and feta salad. In this dish, mixed greens are topped with your Mediterranean favorites like salty Kalamata olives, tangy feta cheese, and crisp cucumbers. The salad is then topped with a light balsamic vinaigrette, which is perfect for a gorgeous spring day like today.
Erik’s Deli Cafe
A Bay area favorite, Erik’s serves up the flavor in every item on their menu — including their fresh and tantalizing salads! A top pick from regulars is the chicken gorgonzola salad, which melds the flavors of fresh gorgonzola cheese, craisins, honey maple walnuts, and Erik’s homemade raspberry walnut vinaigrette. It’s a savory sweet option that will definitely satisfy your desire for a filling meal. For something on the spicier side, try Erik’s salsa ranch salad. Topped with ingredients like sliced ripe avocado, diced corn, black beans, and more, this tasty treat is finished off with a unique salsa ranch dressing and crispy tortilla chips that add a little TexMex flair to your meal.
Portobello Grill
When something a little fancier is on your mind, the Portobello Grill dishes up the fabulous salads that are usually reserved for a night out on the town. Their Cobb salad is a favorite amongst the regulars, mixing together a totally indulgent combo of tiger prawns, crab meat, bacon, egg, and blue cheese. It’s a protein packed menu choice that will satisfy your hunger and your desire for something tasty — you’ll especially love the caper cream dressing! Their golden pear salad is also a great option. Honey roasted pears are the star of this show, which are tossed with candied walnuts and fresh blue cheese. Topped with a raspberry champagne vinaigrette, it’s a dish that’s sure to please — and one of our favorites for San Mateo food delivery!

I may never look at salads the same again. I always though they were boring but after checking out some of these alternatives I may find myself indulging more often.
When you can add a bunch of protein or other tasty ingredients, they definitely work out to be a delicious option!
When I’m thinking about ordering food, it never really occurs to me that I could order a salad, but it’s definitely a great idea if it’s a warm day or you just want something light. I love the description of Cafe Zoe’s Pear and Blue Salad – I’ve had something similar before and it was so tasty.
I agree, Sarah – pears and blue cheese are super yummy!
There should always be an equal amount of healthy food options as there are unhealthy food options. You shouldn’t be discouraged from ordering out just because you are on a diet. Adding things to something as simple as a salad to fill you up is a smart idea and it won’t have you feeling guilty after you eat it.
I agree, Chelsea! It’s great to have healthy options – and it balances out those nights when you just need something indulgent.
I don’t live in this area but if I did this would be my go to meal for lunch. The photo looks very appetizing.
I love salads for lunch as well – and these spots serve them up with lots of flavor!
Im willing to admit i dont always choose a healthy option for lunch. But with the exciting spin but on the chicken gorgonzola salad at Eriks deli cafe i can see myself making a change!
I hear you, Chelsea. But it’s definitely easier to order the healthy option when they have this much flavor!
It’s so hard to find a good salad with lots of protein nowadays. Salads usually just aren’t filling to me, but I’d love to try the prawn or crab meat salads shown here.
It’s nice to try some unique protein options – often the only selections we have are chicken or salmon!
A healthy salad would really hit the spot right now. I need to order more light food. A great change of pace from pizza and Chinese delivery.
I agree, Kirk. It’s the perfect way to mix up your options!
I am absolutely loving the descriptions of the different salad options that there are. It’s refreshing to see a typical “diet food” transformed into something filling, flavorful, and healthy. I’m definitely going to try some of these!
I agree, Tiffany! When the salad is well rounded, it certainly makes a difference!
